Black Willow

Salix nigra

Mature size: 30-40 ft tall
Restoration role: Rapid bank colonization

Understory Tree
Black Willow, a native Central Texas riparian plant

Black willow is often our first responder on a freshly eroded or bare bank. It roots easily from live stakes cut and driven directly into moist soil, colonizing quickly to hold a bank together while slower-growing trees like cypress and sycamore establish behind it.
